Wadley Regional Medical Center is hosting a Breastfeeding Celebration on Tuesday, August 1st from 4 to 7pm held in Wadley’s first floor education room. The event is being
held during World Breastfeeding Week and will focus on awareness and education on breastfeeding including women’s rights, proper nutrition, support groups, and classes that are available in the area.

The event also recognizes the one year anniversary of the Wadley Breastfeeding Support Group. There will be various vendors from the Texarkana area that cater to the soon-to- be, expecting, and new mother’s needs. Everything from clothing to yard décor to 4D ultrasounds, there is something for everyone.

A children’s book will be given to each mom attending the event and there will be refreshments and even the opportunity to purchase items. For young children with their mom, there will be an entertainment corner for the kids to color. Each vendor will be giving away a great door prize and attendees will receive a “passport” of vendors to be signed off on to be entered for the amazing door prizes. For a full list of vendors and door prizes, visit www.wadleyhealth.com/breastfeeding/.

The event is free to the public and everyone is welcome. Making the decision to breastfeed is a personal matter. It’s also one that’s likely to draw strong opinions from friends and family. As Texarkana’s first Texas 10 Step hospital and Mother-Friendly Worksite, Wadley promotes and recommends breastfeeding as do many medical authorities, including the
American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Breastfed babies typically get sick less not to mention the fact that it saves money. There are also benefits for the mom such as losing weight and helping to reduce the risk of breast cancer and ovarian cancer.
