Woman arrested for allegedly throwing kittens from moving vehicle

On Friday, May 24, Bowie County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to the area of US Highway 67 W. and County Road 1215 in reference to someone throwing live kittens from a moving vehicle. The caller had unsuccessfully tried to avoid striking a kitten before noticing that several kittens were being discarded from the vehicle in front of her. The caller described the suspect vehicle as a blue Chevrolet Tahoe and provided law enforcement with the license plate number.

Bowie County Deputy Thomas Alexander located the suspect vehicle on Farm to Market Road 3098 where he identified the driver as Sonia Talette Shavers. Shavers was arrested and charged with Cruelty to Non-Livestock Animals and was booked into the Bi-State Jail. Her bond was set at $10,000.00.

The Bowie County Sheriff’s Office is appreciative of any citizen cooperation that leads to the arrest of criminal offenders. The information provided to the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office by this citizen facilitated the arrest of the person responsible for this heinous crime.
