Albert Larry Benson, of Texarkana, Texas, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at his home.

Larry was born on March 25,1950, to William Otis and Ella Mae Benson and grew up on College Hill and was a diehard Razorback fan. He was a Christian and a faithful member of Buchanan First Baptist Church. He retired from Red River Army Depot after 41 years of service.

Larry was a bigger than life character and anyone who met him never forgot him. He had a heart that always wanted to help others. Affectionately called “rooster” by his family, he lived up to the name. He loved his wife, Connie, and his big family, especially the grandkids who he enjoyed teasing.

Music was one of his favorite things and you couldn’t ride in the car without him belting out a song. You rode in the car with him at your own risk as he was notorious for his driving. His big personality will be missed by everyone who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Nelda Moore.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Connie Burris Benson; his son, Robert Benson; his daughters, Cerinia (Tommy) Smith, and Mindy (Shannon) Bradford; his stepsons, Charles (Sheri) Dycus, John (Christi) Dycus, and Will Hall; children of the heart, John (Jackie) Burris, Christina O’Bannon, Chastity Childers; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerry and Rose Wilson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Buchanan First Baptist Church, 3635 Buchanan Loop Road, Texarkana, Texas. Burial will follow at Chapelwood Memorial Gardens under the direction of Chapelwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2023 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Chapelwood Funeral Home, Nash, Texas.
