Danny Gene Lummus, Sr., age 70, of Hooks, Texas, went home to rest with his Lord and Savior on Friday, January 2, 2026, following a brief illness. Danny was born on August 14, 1955, at St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana, Arkansas, to Wanda and William “Bill” Lummus.
Raised in Texarkana, Danny graduated from Arkansas High School in 1973. He married the love of his life, Jill, with whom he shared 24 cherished years. They were united in marriage on July 10, 2010. A certified mechanic, Danny owned and operated Professional Automotive on Spruce Street in Texarkana. Throughout his life, he faced two bouts with cancer, meeting each challenge with resilience, courage, and unwavering faith in God.
Danny was a devoted member of Myrtle Springs Baptist Church in Hooks, Texas. Those who knew him best described him as God-fearing, hard-working, conscientious, trustworthy, and exceptionally skilled in his trade. Above all, he will be remembered for the immeasurable love and devotion he held for his family.
A gifted gardener, Danny delighted in tending his plants and sharing the fruits (and vegetables) of his labor with family and friends. He loved spending time at the lake, especially fishing, and he passed his appreciation for the outdoors on to his children and grandchildren. Danny and Jill especially loved trout fishing together, a pastime they continued to enjoy even on the memorable day she slipped into the water and he had to pull her out, an experience they laughed about for years. Danny always wanted to make sure his family was safe, and he took pride in equipping them with the practical life skills they would need to take care of themselves and one another. His family fondly recalls his deep concern for safety. Danny firmly believed every home should have a fire extinguisher, and he insisted Jill purchase one shortly after they began dating. He also prided himself in telling the truth, even when it wasn’t the easiest thing to hear.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Lester Lummus, and his nephew, Mark Lummus.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jill, his daughter Cristy Lummus and wife, Carson Corbell, his son, Danny Gene Lummus, Jr., his daughter, Michelle and husband, Jason Giles, and his son, Joey Turcotte and wife, Kristi. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Adaleigh Lummus, Grayson Lummus, Chloe Wardlaw and her husband, Austin, and Brayden Young, along with a host of extended family and dear friends.
Visitation will be held the hour before service.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, January 9, 2026 at Chapelwood Funeral Home.
