Delbert “Earl” Cox, age 73, of Frisco, Texas, died Monday, February 15, 2021, in a hospital in Plano, Texas. Earl was born January 10, 1948, in Texarkana, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Lola Cox of Texarkana, Arkansas. Earl was a retired law enforcement officer and a veteran of the United States Marines. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Frisco, Texas.
Earl was a servant of God, an active member, and a deacon in church. He served his country as a US Marine and served his community in various capacities. Many of you in Texarkana know him as “Officer Friendly” and as the entrepreneur who led the McGruff, DARE program, and eventually the beginnings of a police unit as chief for Texarkana Independent School District.
If Earl knew you, he loved you, and he let you know it. His family and now his five grandkids, who called him Paw Paw, were his pride and joy. He was a faithful husband to Kathy Lynn Cox for 51 years.
While the world lost a legend today, heaven welcomed a saint. We grieve as the ones left behind, but we grieve with the hope that we will one day be reunited together. We are comforted by the fact that he is no longer in pain and that through Christ, he is made whole again.
Earl is survived by his wife, Kathy Lynn Cox of Frisco, Texas; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Cathy Cox of Prosper, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Ryan Blair of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; two brothers, Lynn Cox of Texarkana, Texas, and Joe and Becky Cox of Genoa, Arkansas; 5 grandchildren Reagan (14), Jackson (12), Addysen (11), Ethan (9), and Ayla (4); a number of other relatives and a special dog, Maggie.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, February 22, 2021, at First Baptist Church Atrium, Texarkana with Rev. Larry Sims officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park under the direction of Chapelwood Funeral Home.
