Shirley Jean Spencer, age 87, of Maud, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025. She was born on August 19, 1938, in Texarkana, Arkansas, to Dr. Roy Eugene Mathis and Erma Mathis.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bob Spencer, her parents, and one brother.
Shirley retired from the Texarkana Independent School District after twenty-five years of dedicated service, where she found joy in helping students who crossed her path.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Mike Spencer (Carrie) of Craig, Colorado; Tracy Vandergriff (Kent) of Chandler, Texas; Chris Spencer (Christy) of Texarkana, Arkansas; her two grandchildren Dillon Vandergriff (Madyson) of Chandler, Texas and Hannah Lynch (Ben) of Atlanta, Texas; along with other extended family and friends.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 10 AM at Chapelwood Funeral Home, Nash, Texas with burial to follow in Chapelwood Memorial Gardens.
