Vero’s Latinos Store is part Grocery store, butcher shop, and taqueria, pioneering authentic Mexican food in an area that sorely needed variety, accessibility, and most of all, flavor. The owners, a family of three sisters, have offered the freshest, made-to-order food for the last 11 years in Texarkana.
Located at 2106 New Boston Road, Texarkana, TX, 75501, Vero’s consistently caters to hungry guests wanting breakfast, lunch, or dinner that is affordable, full of flavor, and frankly, quite addictive.
Customer favorites range from their assortment of chicken or beef tacos and burritos to their nachos and enchiladas. However, the sopes, flautas, and other menu items are equally delectable, luring in unsuspecting guests as they smell the aroma of grilled meat and homemade tortillas as they pass by.
On Vero’s anniversary every March, the ladies grill whole chickens, pork ribs, sausages, and other fresh meats at a reduced price. Regular customers participate in celebrating the success of Vero’s and take the opportunity to indulge in snowcones, mangonadas, and corn in a cup.
For those who are not familiar with authentic Mexican dishes, a sope, is a traditional Mexican dish originating in the central and southern parts of Mexico, where it was sometimes first known as pellizcadas. Main ingredients include corn dough, vegetables, meat, refried beans, cheese, lettuce, onions, red or green salsa.
Flautas, another popular dish, are usually made from rolled-up wheat flour tortillas. Flautas is spanish for flutes and are commonly mistaken for taquito.
Another excellent option is their gordita, a Mexican cuisine that is a pastry made with masa and stuffed with cheese, meat, or other fillings, similar to the Colombian/Venezuelan arepa. Gordita means “chubby” in Spanish.
Tamales are also a regional favorite, a traditional Mesoamerica dish made of masa or dough, which is then steamed in a corn husk.
Finally, Vero’s chorizos, flavorful pork sausage, are highly favored. Chorizos casings are made made from intestines, a method used since Roman times.
It is easy to see how the sisters have become so successful, always smiling, offering a friendly greeting, and making accommodations for their customers needs. Guests can order their favorite dish, grab a Topo-Chico, browse the store, order a pina colada, and enjoy their day in an environment that is inclusive for all ethnicities.
Whether you are a fan of the more traditional chicken or beef tacos or prefer the more authentic foods like a gordita, Vero’s is waiting for your order. Visit the three sister Sunday-Saturday, hours vary.
