Additional Charges Filed Against Texarkana Man Accused of Child Sexual Assault

TEXARKANA, Texas–A man accused of molesting a 10-year-old girl he is related to by marriage is facing new charges alleging he possessed images of child sexual abuse, including photos and video he created.

Juan Espinosa-Martinez, 36, was charged in mid-December with aggravated sexual assault of a child. An additional charge of possession of child pornography was filed Wednesday, Bowie County court records show.

Investigators reportedly discovered a number of images depicting the sexual abuse of children, including a number of images that contained objects in the background that officers observed in Espinosa-Martinez’s home, according to a probable cause affidavit.
The girl’s mother reportedly involved police after seeing an image of her daughter being sexually abused on Espinosa-Martinez’s phone.

Espinosa-Martinez has been in custody since his arrest Dec. 11. Bail on the charges totals $500,000.

If convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a child, Espinosa-Martinez faces five to 99 years or life in a Texas prison. If convicted of possessing images of child sexual abuse, he could receive two to 20 years in prison.

The case has been assigned to 202nd District Judge John Tidwell.
