Data center developer quietly buys 600 acres in Bowie County
TEXARKANA, Texas — A Fort Worth company that develops land for data centers has purchased nearly 600 acres in western Bowie County, according to deeds recorded with the Bowie County Clerk.
Black Mountain Power LLC bought a 600-acre tract on March 24, 2026, from Barkman Creek Land Company, LP, a Texarkana-based partnership, county records show.
The land lies in western Bowie County along F.M. 2253 and F.M. 1398, in the Mary Morris, John Barkman and Collin McKinney surveys, near the Red Lick area.
Founded in 2007, Black Mountain is an energy company largely focused on investments in oil and gas as well as lithium mining, but is also targeting battery storage, water, and carbon capture. The company has data center projects underway elsewhere in Texas, including campuses in the Fort Worth area, near San Antonio and in Parker County.

The deeds do not state what Black Mountain Power intends to build on the land, and the company has not announced a project at the site.
The purchase comes as Bowie County draws growing interest from power-intensive industry. In late April, TexAmericas Center and Potentia Development announced Project Big Pine, a planned 500-acre, $3.5 billion campus aimed at data centers and artificial intelligence operations. That project is on TexAmericas Center land and is separate from the Black Mountain Power tract.
TexAmericas Center also recently announced a potential lithium battery factory near by.
Black Mountain Power could not immediately be reached for comment.
