Texarkana Woman Arrested After Returning To Credit Union Where She Allegedly Cashed Forged Checks

TEXARKANA, Texas — A 39-year-old woman was arrested Friday after she returned to the same credit union where she is accused of cashing forged checks earlier in the week, according to the Texarkana Texas Police Department.

Employees at the credit union contacted police Friday morning after discovering that Heather Owen had allegedly cashed forged checks during two separate visits over the previous few days. Staff also learned she had cashed another forged check at one of the credit union’s Texarkana, Arkansas locations, police said.

Officer Alan Bailey responded and took a report for detectives to investigate. Before leaving, he asked employees to call 911 if Owen returned.

A few hours later, she did. Police said Owen pulled into the credit union’s drive-thru lane, apparently attempting to cash another check. Bailey was nearby when employees called 911 and arrived while Owen was still waiting in the lane.

Owen was arrested on a forgery charge and booked into the Bi-State Jail. During a search of her vehicle, Bailey found additional checks that detectives are now reviewing as part of the ongoing investigation, police said.

Owen posted a $10,000 bond and was released from jail Saturday.
