AUSTIN – Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers made more than 1,100 DWI arrests during a special enforcement period recently, which included the Labor Day holiday. The targeted DWI enforcement was in effect from Aug. 15 through Sept. 2.

“Removing dangerous and impaired drivers from Texas roads helps protect all travelers,” said DPS Director Steven McCraw. “DPS’ enforcement effort this Labor Day holiday helped prevent potentially deadly crashes and make Texas highways that much safer.”

DPS Highway Patrol troopers made 1,175 DWI arrests during the Labor Day enforcement period, and 106 of those arrests were a direct result of additional patrol hours funded by a Texas Department of Transportation grant.

This DPS enforcement effort also resulted in 18,615 speeding citations, 2,840 seat belt/child safety seat citations, 838 fugitive arrests and 665 felony arrests.
