Man Allegedly Wielded Flag Pole In State Line Window Smashing Spree

TEXARKANA, Texas–A man accused of using a flag pole to smash windows at the Texarkana Chamber of Commerce and a private business on State Line Ave. in Texarkana in July is being held in the Bowie County jail with bail set at $150,000.

Carl Daniel Jackson, 51, allegedly caused about $35,000 in combined damage to the Chamber building and to Big Boyz Toyz on July 2, according to a probable cause affidavit. Police received numerous calls from people who had reportedly witnessed a man using a flag pole to break windows.

When Texarkana, Texas, police arrived in the area, they made contact with Jackson, who had been detained by a member of the Texarkana Ark. Police Dept. Jackson’s allegedly rapid, nonsensical speech, profuse sweating and constricted pupils led officers to believe Jackson was under the influence of methamphetamine, the affidavit said. Jackson allegedly told officers he was being harassed by “gang stalkers” and initially blamed the unknown stalkers for the vandalism, according to the affidavit.

Jackson allegedly confessed later while in custody at the scene, the affidavit said. Officers believe a flag pole was used to shatter glass on five panels valued at around $20,000 at the Chamber of Commerce while chunks of concrete were allegedly used to break seven panels of glass at Big Boyz valued at $15,000.

Jail records show that Jackson has been in custody since July 2 and that he was charged with assault of a public servant on Aug. 3 while in jail.

If convicted of either of two counts of felony criminal mischief related to the State Line vandalism, Jackson faces six months to two years in a state jail.
