An estimated 75 volunteers from the Junior League of Texarkana helped provide Christmas cheer to underserved kids during their annual Holiday from the Heart shopping spree today at Walmart located on New Boston Road in Texarkana, TX.

Each December, the Junior League of Texarkana partners with Walmart to provide students from area schools, who might not otherwise receive Christmas gifts, $125 each to enjoy a morning of shopping with a Junior League volunteer. Many children purchase gifts for their family as well as themselves. In addition to the gifts, each child receives a picture with Santa and a food basket to bring home to their family.

Since its first event held in 2004, an estimated 600 kids from Liberty Eylau ISD, Pleasant Grove ISD, Texarkana, Arkansas ISD and Texarkana, Texas ISD have been served through this in-league project.

“Holiday from the Heart gives me the chance to slow down during a busy, hectic season and savor the true meaning of Christmas,” said Robin Bass, Holiday from the Heart 2014-2015 co-chairperson.

This year’s event benefited students from Texarkana, Arkansas ISD.

The Junior League of Texarkana is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.
