TRAHC and Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure unveiled this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Artwall Panels in the ArtsPark on West Fourth Street between Main and Texas Boulevard.

Amber Lawrence, the Executive Director of Komen Texarkana, opened  up the event with a few words and thanked all the people that were involved with making this event possible. Then, volunteers pulled down the tarps to unveil the 48 new panels added to the wall.

Staff and volunteers contacted local survivors in the area to give them an opportunity to paint and help out. The Artwall was painted by over 50 survivors, friends, and family members along with four artists. The painting took place at Skyler’s Frame Shop at 1302 N Stateline Ave, Texarkana, AR 71854. “We painted for a week, but it was only supposed to take 3 days,” stated Lawrence.

“The ArtWall for me was a very eye opening experience. It allowed me to meet the survivors and showed me the purpose of this job and great organization,” stated Lawrence. As Executive Director, she is responsible for the direction and guidance of the events and race, but she was quick to credits the race chairs and volunteers as the ones responsible for “doing all the work”. She also credits TRAHC for sponsoring the ArtWall every year.

Komen Texarkana has several events planned for this month. The big event is Komen Race for the Cure scheduled on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Four States Fairgrounds. “We are really excited to be celebrating our Sweet Sixteen – our 16th year for Race for the Cure in Texarkana. We are also very excited to have E-Z Mart back for 15th year as our Grand Presenting Sponsor.”

The unveiling of the ArtWall was held on Wednesday, October 1, 2015 at 5:30PM.
