Texarkana, TX – The Texas High School Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS) hosted their 1st Annual Dash for Cash 5K Saturday morning. This 5K Run/Walk started at 8:00 a.m. this morning. Texas High is not only hosted the 5K, but had a 1 mile “Tiger Cub Fun Run” that took place after the 5K.
Food was available as well as vendor booths, and games for the entire family. Following the race, there was a Tiger Celebration for the participants and families featuring fitness, children’s event, food and fun!
Christy Paddock, Dash for Cash Chairman said, “I am so pleased with the great turnout and the great day that we have had for our first TISD district-wide event.”
“This has been a labor of love for our Dash for the Cash committee and we were extremely pleased to see everything come to fruition. We had an estimated 300 registered participants and raised between $35,000 – $40,000 for the Texas High School VIPS Scholarship Program,” said Paddock. “Not bad for a Saturday!”
The start/finish of the race was at the Texas High School track/baseball field. 5K participants enjoyed a course that went through the Spring Lake Park area and then brings them back to the Texas High School Track for a fun post-event finish. All proceeds from the race will benefit the THS VIPS Scholarship Fund. VIPS is TISD’s version of the PTA. Each year Texas High VIPS awards scholarships to deserving high school seniors.
TISD hopes that this event becomes a long-lasting tradition for the Tiger community! “It is our hope that Dash for Cash will become an annual event which will support and further the education of our Texas High School graduates,” commented Christy Paddock, Chairman. “In addition to raising scholarship funds, this event will bring the entire district together to celebrate fitness, exercise and community support. I invite everyone to come join us.”
