Texarkana is invited to an inspiring evening of culture, history, and community as the TRAHC African American Committee (TAAC) presents the 26th Annual African American Voice: An Evening of Performance on Friday, January 16, 2026, at the Texarkana Regional Arts Center. The program runs from 6:30–7:30 PM, followed by a special exhibit viewing from 7:30–8:30 PM.

This year’s theme honors the powerful contributions of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Black Greek Letter Organizations, celebrating their enduring impact on education, leadership, and service. Guests are encouraged to wear their HBCU and Greek colors to show pride and unity.

A Night of Music, Reflection, and Community Spirit

The evening will open with greetings from TRAHC staff and remarks from TAAC Chairperson Treva West, setting the stage for a program rich with tradition and meaning. Attendees will join in singing “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing,” led by Barbara Larry of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., with Dr. Beverly Webb of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. at the piano.

A community Sing‑A‑Long will feature beloved selections including “God Bless America,” “Precious Lord, Take My Hand,” and “We Shall Overcome,” inviting the audience to participate in a shared musical experience that has carried generations through struggle, hope, and triumph.

Honoring HBCUs and the Divine Nine

A highlight of the evening will be the HBCU Roll Call, led by Ricky Jones of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., followed by the Black Greek Letter Organizations Roll Call, presented by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Alumni, members, and supporters will stand proudly as their institutions are recognized.

These roll calls celebrate the legacy of excellence, scholarship, and service that HBCUs and the Divine Nine continue to uphold across the nation.

Candlelight Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

In a moving tribute, Rev. Anthony Patterson of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., along with six PanHellenic Council members, will lead the Candlelight Ceremony honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The ceremony will highlight Dr. King’s Six Principles of Nonviolence—timeless teachings that continue to guide efforts toward justice, peace, and equality.

A Message of Hope and Purpose

Dr. James A. Morris will introduce the evening’s messenger, Rev. Frederick Webb, pastor of Tabernacle Church and member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Rev. Webb will deliver a message reflecting on Dr. King’s legacy and the ongoing call to service, unity, and community uplift.

Exhibit Opening: Elemental — African American Portraiture

Following the program, guests are invited to explore Elemental: African American Portraiture, TAAC’s annual exhibit featuring regional artists whose work examines identity, self‑expression, and the elements through portraiture. The exhibit runs through February 28, 2026.

TAAC’s Ongoing Commitment

Since its founding in 1999, the TRAHC African American Committee has worked to preserve and celebrate African American history, culture, and the humanities through performances, exhibits, workshops, and community programs. TAAC encourages community members to support its mission by joining at contribution levels ranging from $50 to $500+, helping sustain free‑admission programs that enrich Texarkana year after year.
