Members of the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office have been investigating Mathew Tyler Smith for allegedly trafficking substantial quantities of marijuana to the Texarkana area.

According to Bowie County Sheriff’s Office, on Monday information was obtained that Matthew Smith would be delivering marijuana to the Super Walmart at 4000 New Boston Road Texarkana, TX. Smith was supposed to deliver the marijuana in a white 2-door Nissan Altima that belongs to his girlfriend Cassie Rena Scott. Deputy Westin Fannin conducted surveillance on Interstate 30 westbound at Richmond Road in anticipation of the suspect vehicle.

At approximately 12:09pm, he observed the white Nissan Altima pass by on the way to Walmart on New Boston Road. A probable cause stop was conducted on the vehicle and Deputy Fannin attempted to make contact with the driver Matthew Smith and the passenger Cassie Scott. Deputy Fannin stated that Smith was looking around and appeared to be searching for an escape route before he was boxed in by Sergeant Rob Hadaway. Both Smith and Scott were removed from the vehicle and a blue duffle bag was recovered from the back seat. It contained 4 individually vacuum sealed bundles of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana. The total weight of these bundles was approximately 4.5 pounds. Smith confessed to the offense during questioning and was found to have $2,361.00 in United States currency.

Both Smith and Scott were booked into the Bi-State Jail for Possession of Marijuana Over Four Ounces and Under Five Pounds. They both had their bonds set at $30,000.00 by Judge Nancy Talley. At the time of this release, Smith had bonded out of jail and Scott remains in custody at the Bi-State Jail.
