TEXARKANA, TEXAS – The Texarkana Texas Police Department arrested Javier Perez, 26, of Terrell, Texas, on Tuesday for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child.

At approximately 5:40 yesterday afternoon, officers were dispatched to the Texarkana Public Library, located at 600 West Third Street, on a possible sexual assault. A library employee said she became concerned after she saw an unknown man (later identified as Perez) and an eleven year old boy that she knew walking into the restroom together. She alerted a male employee and asked him to check on the child.

When the employee entered the restroom, he could see the feet of two people inside a locked stall and believed that they were involved in sexual activity. He yelled at them and ran to get his supervisor. They then saw Perez leave the restroom, immediately exit the building, and run north toward the Randy Sams’ Outreach Shelter, located at 402 Oak Street.

Officers went to the Randy Sams’ Shelter and contacted Perez, who agreed to accompany them to the police department to be interviewed by detectives.

Detectives later arrested Perez at the conclusion of his interview and booked him into the Bi-State Jail. He is charged with one count of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, and his bond has been set at $100,000.
