The Texarkana Texas Police Department arrested Damont Williams, 35, of Texarkana Texas, after a stolen motorcycle was discovered in the back of his van late Tuesday.
At 11:15 on Tuesday night, a woman reported that a man in a white van in the 2700 block of Charlotte Street had just tried to get her to buy a dog from him. Given the late hour, she was suspicious and called 911. Officers found Williams alone in the parked van at that location. As they spoke to him, he became increasingly agitated and paranoid. At one point, he jumped from the driver’s seat to the passenger side seat and started yelling at them through the passenger window. At that point, officers observed what appeared to be a pipe typically used for smoking drugs sticking out of his pants pocket. Williams was placed under arrest for Possession of a Controlled Substance, and the pipe containing methamphetamine was collected as evidence.
As officers inventoried the van as part of the vehicle impound process, they discovered a Honda Grom motorcycle in the cargo area of the van that appeared to have been recently repainted. It was recognized as being similar to one reported stolen in Texarkana, Arkansas a few days before. After confirming it to be the same one, officers recovered the stolen motorcycle.
Williams was transported to the Bi-State Jail without incident. In addition to the Theft of Property and Possession of a Controlled Substance charges, Williams had outstanding felony warrants for Failure to Appear on Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon and Failure to Appear on Possession of Controlled Substance. He was also wanted on a felony probation violation warrant for Breaking and Entering in Miller County, Arkansas. Bond was set at $5,000 on the drug charge and $10,000 for the theft charge. He is currently being held without bond on the remaining three charges.
