Man turns himself in for child sex abuse, facing life


A man who allegedly reported his own sexual misconduct with a young female relative has been indicted by a Bowie County grand jury for the continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14.

Brandon Lee Loftin, 35, allegedly confessed Jan. 13 that years before he had engaged in repeated sexual contact with a girl who was 5 or 6 years of age at the time. The abuse allegedly occurred at least five years ago at a residence in Texarkana, Texas.

Investigators with the Texarkana, Texas, Police Department contacted the girl’s mother and made arrangements for the child to meet with a trained forensic interviewer in the jurisdiction where she resides. The girl allegedly confirmed that Loftin had sexually abused her on multiple occasions from the time she was in kindergarten until she was approximately 10 years old.

The offense with which Loftin is charged, continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14, is punishable by 25 to 99 years or life in prison.

Loftin is currently being held in the Bowie County jail. He is scheduled to appear for arraignment before 202nd District Judge John Tidwell on Monday.
