The Texarkana Promise Program is a last-dollar scholarship that ensures qualifying students can attend college without the burden of tuition. The program supports recent high school graduates who enroll at Texarkana College in the fall semester immediately following high school graduation and who meet eligibility criteria. The Promise Program provides funding through the completion of an associate degree or up to 60 semester credit hours, whichever comes first.
The Texarkana Promise program was developed in response to the region’s low educational attainment, where college completion rates in Bowie, Cass, and Red River counties fall well below state and national averages. To increase college access and completion for local high school graduates, the program provides eligible students with financial assistance that makes higher education more attainable. It supports both current high school students earning dual credit and recent graduates by covering remaining eligible educational tuition after other forms of aid have been applied*.
Beginning fall 2026, the Promise Program will also remove financial barriers for high school students by covering dual credit fees not funded through the state’s FAST program administered by the Texas Education Agency, ensuring that every student has access to higher education without financial burden.
“The Texarkana Promise Scholarship is designed to make a college education truly attainable for students in our community,” said Dr. Jason Smith, President of Texarkana College. “Students may qualify through academic achievement in high school or by completing dual credit coursework, which can give them an early start on a college degree and additional financial support along the way. This life-changing opportunity is made possible through the generous support of the Texarkana College Foundation, whose commitment to our students and our region helps remove financial barriers to higher education. We are also proud of our strong partnership with Texas A&M University–Texarkana, which creates a seamless pathway for students to continue their education beyond Texarkana College. Together, we are strengthening our regional workforce and opening doors for students to achieve their goals right here at home.”
Designed to continue financial assistance to graduates of Texarkana College, the TAMUT Commitment allows qualifying students the opportunity to seamlessly transition to Texas A&M University-Texarkana to work toward earning a bachelor’s degree.
“Texas A&M University-Texarkana is proud to announce the TAMUT Commitment in conjunction with the Texarkana Promise program at Texarkana College,” said A&M-Texarkana President Dr. Ross Alexander. “These combined programs are designed to reduce financial barriers and create greater access to higher education opportunities for local students, which benefits not only the students but the entire community as well.”
