You may have noticed people holding simple black and white signs on busy streets near area high schools. The signs read “don’t give up” and “your mistakes don’t define you.”

Joel Dillahunty, a local missionary, started holding the inspirational signs this summer.

According to Dillahunty, “Dontgiveupsigns.com started this campaign a couple of years ago because they were concerned about the high suicide rates amongst teens.” Dillahunty started holding the signs up near Unity Church on Texas Blvd this summer. Dillahunty and his daughter then began holding the signs up at Texas High. Now sign holders can been seen at various area schools on different days.

“We just want to encourage people that they are not alone. It’s not the rest of your life, whatever mistakes you make don’t define you,” said Dillahunty.
