Arkansas High students, staff and members of the community gathered to witness the placing of an Arkansas High School time capsule on Friday, April 19.

“Students and staff put a lot of thought into the items placed inside the capsule,” commented AHS Principal Mr. Michael Odom. “A few of the items in the time capsule include a yearbook, event programs, newspapers, pictures of celebrities, and current fashion trends.” The time capsule will be reopened in fifty years, in the year 2069. “It will be interesting for the class of 2069 to have a glimpse into the lives of the current class of 2019.”

Students who were a part of this project understand the great historical value it will have to the students opening it in 2069. Students such as senior and student council President, Kaleb Manley, also know that it will be of great sentimental value to the class of 2019 members who are able to see it opened. “When this capsule is opened in 50 years, the nostalgia that we will feel will be incomparable to anything else,” Manley said.

The time capsule was a shared idea from Texarkana Fence Company, AHS teacher Nancy Huddleston, and members of the junior class.
