As the saying goes, “It is never too late to start or start over” at Texarkana College and their Adult Education & Literacy program is ensuring that others know just that.
The Adult Education & Literacy program, which is located on the Texarkana College campus, offers free classes for those adults 16 & up who are wanting to obtain their Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency (GED/HiSET), improve their English speaking skills through ESL courses, basic skill improvement to assist with college entrance exams, and lastly, Integrated Education for workforce and training programs.
“This year’s GED staff took many different approaches to help us students learn and to keep us motivated to come to school. Their hands-on teaching and friendly and positive classroom environment made a big impact” says 2019 GED graduate, Esmeralda Miranda. Miranda came to the United States 11 years ago not knowing any English but was able to achieve her goal of getting her GED with the help of the Adult Education & Literacy Program. Miranda says, “What I learned from this remarkable year was to not get mad at the tumbles, tough times, and downfalls in life because that’s what it takes to accomplish your goals. I am here today. Tomorrow you can be, too.”
Classes are offered morning, evening, and night several days during the week. You can get more information and sign-up for orientation by calling the Adult Education & Literacy Program at 903-823-3461 or stop by and visit them on TC’s campus in the Physical Science building (located at the corner of Tucker and Johnson St) Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.
