Black Ice Warning!

The national weather service has issued a special weather statement for the Texarkana area warning about the likely development of black ice.  Overnight lows will be in the low 20’s overnight.

Use extreme caution if you must drive in the early hours of Thursday morning.

BLACK ICE IS LIKELY TO REDEVELOP OVER MUCH OF THE REGION TONIGHT AND THURSDAY MORNING…
WIDESPREAD SNOWFALL THAT FELL ACROSS MUCH OF THE FOUR STATE REGION EARLIER TODAY HAS ALREADY BEGUN TO MELT AS TEMPERATURES HAVE CLIMBED ABOVE FREEZING THIS AFTERNOON. THERE ARE INDICATIONS THAT THE SKY MAY GRADUALLY CLEAR FROM NORTHWEST TO SOUTHEAST OVERNIGHT OVER PORTIONS OF THE REGION… WITH THE CLEARING SKY… LIGHT WINDS… AND SNOWPACK STILL IN PLACE ALLOWING FOR TEMPERATURES TO FALL BELOW FREEZING OVER MUCH OF THE REGION TONIGHT. FREEZING TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED AFTER SUNSET THIS EVENING OVER THE INTERSTATE 30 CORRIDOR OF EXTREME NORTHEAST TEXAS… SOUTHEAST OKLAHOMA… AND SOUTHWEST ARKANSAS… AND AFTER 9 PM OVER MUCH OF NORTH LOUISIANA AND THE REMAINDER OF EAST TEXAS. THIS LONG DURATION OF FREEZING TEMPERATURES WILL ALLOW FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF BLACK ICE ON BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES… AS WELL AS SOME ROADWAYS… WITH THIS THREAT LINGERING THROUGH MID TO LATE MORNING THURSDAY.
MOTORISTS THAT MUST BE DRIVING TONIGHT SHOULD USE EXTREME CAUTION DURING THEIR EVENING AND OVERNIGHT COMMUTE. TRAVEL IS STRONGLY DISCOURAGED UNTIL THE ICE IS ABLE TO MELT LATE THURSDAY MORNING.
