According to Bowie County Clerk Tina Petty her office intends to issue same-sex marriage license.  This comes in the wake of Friday’s historic 5-4 Supreme Court decision that States can not keep same-sex couples from marrying.

According to Petty her office has had a high volume of calls since Friday with people inquiring about the status of same-sex licenses.

Hood County Clerk Katie Lang has said she will not be issuing same sex licenses due to her religious liberty.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton issued an opinion that clerks with an issue can refrain from issuing same sex license, but may face fines or legal challenges.

“As an elected official I have taken an oath to execute the duties of the office, and that I will preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution and the laws of the United States and of the State of Texas without subjecting those actions to my own personal values.,” said Petty.

Petty said that the State of Texas sent out updated gender neutral application forms late Friday and her office will begin issuing licenses as soon as the software is update to print them.
