caldwell-chadChad Michael Caldwell, 34, received a 20 year sentence Monday morning for killing two people and permanently injuring another.

Caldwell received 20 years each on two intoxication manslaughter charges and 10 years for one count of intoxication assault.

202nd District Judge Leon Pesek, Jr. ordered the terms to be served concurrently and gave Caldwell credit towards the time he has already served in jail.

On September 29, 2013 Caldwell allegedly ran a red light in the 1300 block of State Line killing Tameka Pavon, 38, and Jacarlos Hawkins, 34. Genaro Comacho, 28, the front seat passenger survived but now requires constant caregiving.

Caldwell’s lawyer Jason Horton warned, “If you think it can’t happen to you, think again.”

“This is a terrible situation for which Chad accepted full responsibility. Two people lost their lives, another is permanently injured, and Chad will be sent to prison for an indeterminate amount of time. There are no winners here,” Horton said. “This should serve as a valuable lesson to anyone who considers driving after drinking.”
