A Cass County man died yesterday in a single vehicle accident caused by pulling a trailer at an unsafe speed on FM 125 just east of Linden, TX.
According to Texas DPS Trooper Sylvia Jennings, 71-year-old David Louis Smith of Linden, Texas was pronounced dead on scene at 5:23 p.m. Wednesday.
Smith was towing a homemade trailer in a 2001 Ford F150 at an unsafe speed when the vehicle started to weave side to side causing the truck to leave the north side of the roadway. According to the report the trailer detached from the vehicle, and came to rest in the woods.
“The trailer detached from the vehicle, and came to rest in the woods. The truck struck a tree with its front right causing vehicle to flip on its left side.”
According to the report Smith was not wearing a seat belt.
Passenger, 60-year-old James Irwin, also of Linden was wearing a seat belt. Irwin was transported to St. Michael’s Atlanta with Non-Incapacitating injuries and was treated and released.
