Former FCI guard gets probation for having sex with prisoner

A former guard at the Federal Correctional Institution in Texarkana received five-years of probation last week for having sex with an inmate.

According to information presented in court, on June 1, 2014, Chares, while employed as a Bureau of Prisons Case Manager at the Federal Correctional Institution in Texarkana, engaged in a sexual act with a federal inmate detained at the facility.

This case was investigated by the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Inspector General and the Bureau of Prisons and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Locker.

U.S. District Judge Robert Schroeder, III ordered Chares to serve the first eight months of the five year term on home confinement.
