Fire Department Vehicle in Major Accident Responding to Fire

8:00 P.M. Monday | A Texarkana, Texas Fire Department vehicle was in a major two car accident while responding to a fire Monday evening. Battalion Chief Mike Norwood, 42, was traveling north on Summerhill road in his department issued Ford Explorer with his emergency lights on in route to a fire call.

Officers believe a white Lincoln Town Car driven by James Collins, 32, of Texarkana, Arkansas, was traveling south in the northbound lane of Summerhill Road when the two vehicles were involved in a head on collision. Chief Norwood and James Collins were both transported to Christus St. Michael Hospital for their injuries.

Chief Norwood on Tuesday was listed in “good condition.” An unidentified nurse said he was doing “just great.”

James Collins was treated at the emergency room after the accident on Monday and released.

The crash is still under investigation.
