George Merrill Promoted to BancorpSouth President

TEXARKANA, Texas — September 10, 2019 – BancorpSouth Bank (NYSE: BXS) announced today the promotion of George Merrill to president – Texarkana market community bank. In his new role, Merrill will be responsible for overseeing the bank’s seven locations in Texarkana, Texas, and Texarkana, Arkansas, as well as community involvement efforts.

Merrill has served as a senior vice president and sales manager since joining the bank in 2009. Throughout his 35-year career in banking, he has held several positions in operations, loan review and commercial lending.

“George’s skills and experience are great assets to the bank,” said BancorpSouth President – Texas Region Lester Lucy. “We’re confident in his abilities to lead the company successfully in our Texarkana market.”

Merrill has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Southern Arkansas University, and a master’s degree in business administration from Texas A&M University at Texarkana, formerly East Texas State University.

Merrill is a member of the Texarkana Planning & Zoning Commission and a member of First Baptist Church in Texarkana. He was formerly a president and board member for the Kiwanis Club of Texarkana and a participant in Leadership Texarkana.
