A Bowie County grand jury has indicted a man accused of shooting his children’s mother’s boyfriend at a Texarkana apartment complex in March.

Ray Montrell Brown allegedly shot Deonte Henderson during a shoving match at the Sunset Apartments in Texarkana, Texas March 6. According to court records, Brown told investigators he went to his children’s mother’s apartment to take clothing to the children.

While there, Brown allegedly got into an argument with Henderson, the boyfriend of his children’s mother. When the dispute turned physical, Brown allegedly pulled out a pistol and fired. Henderson was treated at a local hospital. Brown allegedly went to the Bi-State voluntarily after the incident and provided a statement.

Brown was indicted Thursday for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon involving serious bodily injury. He faces two to 20 years if found guilty. Brown’s case has been assigned to 202nd District Judge Leon Pesek.
