Bowie County election officials are recruiting poll workers ahead of six scheduled elections in 2026, part of a national effort to recognize and staff polling locations across the country.
The county needs approximately 150 election workers to staff vote centers throughout the year, according to Pat McCoy, Bowie County Elections Administrator. The recruitment coincides with Help America Vote Day on January 27, 2026, a national initiative launched by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission.
“Poll workers are a critical part of our election process and being a poll worker is one of the most meaningful and rewarding ways to help Americans vote,” McCoy said. “We are so lucky to have this great group of dedicated local individuals working in our community to help their friends and neighbors through the voting process.”
Election officials nationwide face ongoing challenges recruiting sufficient poll workers. A shortage of workers can result in fewer polling locations, longer wait times, and increased voter confusion.
To qualify as an election worker in Bowie County, applicants must be U.S. citizens and registered voters in the county. Workers must complete mandatory in-person training and online training provided by the Secretary of State’s office. Election workers receive compensation for their service.
