It’s Scout-O-Rama Time at Spring Lake Park Texarkana

The Caddo Area Council Boy Scouts of America will hold its Scout-O-Rama 2016 at Spring Lake Park in Texarkana on April 2. The theme of this year’s event is “4 States SOR” and will be featuring outdoor activities, scout craft, pioneering, and showmanship. During this event, scout trips will be able to camp at the park on Friday and Saturday nights and participate in a special campfire program.

Opening ceremonies for this event will begin at 11:30AM with dignitaries from Arkansas and Texas. The public is invited to attend all the events during the day.

This will also be the first year for the Caddo Area Council BSA ICS chili cook off. The rules are administrated and sanctioned through the International Chili Society, (ICS). One can purchase a bowl for just $5 from any area scout.

The scouts are using the money to raise funds and learn how to pay their own way through scouting, and life for that matter. Proceeds to enable scouts to go to summer camp, buy uniforms and books, camping gear and much more. So please purchase a chili bowl from a scout.

Twenty-five years ago at the Texarkana Scout-O-Rama 1991, a time capsule was buried and during this year’s Scout-O-Rama, it will be time to open the time capsule which scouts buried. The time capsule will be opened Saturday afternoon, around 3:30 pm.

During this event a new time capsule will be buried aduring the show (Sunday), to be opened in 2066. This capsule will be available at the Scout-O-Rama Headquarters for units to submit photos, written articles, and personal treasures (neckerchief, unit t-shirt, etc).

Additionally, among the events during this much awaited Scout-O-Rama, Glenn Adams, President of the National Eagle Scout Association, will speak at the opening ceremony on April 2.

Glenn received his Eagle Scout award in 1973 and has continued to actively support the Boy Scouts of America. He has received his Wood Badge and Silver Beaver Awards, the Celtic Cross, Order of the Arrow – Brotherhood, and Silver Antelope awards.

Professionally, Glenn has over 28 years of experience in the independent oil and gas exploration and production sector. He rose rapidly through the ranks of energy professionals to become, at age 29, one of the youngest officers of a publicly traded NASDAQ Exploration and Production company in the country. At age 34 he became CEO of the company.

Later Glenn formed the Adexco Production Company with his brother Craig Adams. The Adams brothers were one of the earliest industry leaders in the emergence of the Barnett Shale unconventional gas field. The Barnett Shale became the largest onshore gas fields developed in the continental United States in the last 40 years.

During this event there will also be a fireworks show after dark and other great events taking place such as; national hot air balloons overhead, Native American crafts and dance with the Texas Connection out of Houston, a regional scout craft including rope bridge, pioneering projects, canoeing, cooking demonstrations, knot tying, pine wood derby, soap box derby, pre-1840s pioneering from Venture Crew 3, Tomahawk throwing and more.
