Major Red River flooding could close area roads again

UPDATED FORECAST INDICATES THAT ALL MAJOR ROADS WILL REMAIN OEPN.

Once again this year major flooding is forecast for the Red River leaving the possibility of area roads closing due to high water by Wednesday morning.

Index Bridge on Highway 71 is currently forecast to crest at 26.6 feet which is the same level the river was at when the road was closed in late May.

U.S. 259 at Pecan Point is forecast to crest at 33.8 feet by Tuesday morning.  At 33 feet U.S. 259 will likely be closed.

Heavy rain is expected across the entire Red River Basin over the next week.
