Man flees from police with 3-year-old child in vehicle

A Texarkana, Texas, Police officer at 5:10 p.m. yesterday witnessed a Nissan SUV strike a parked car in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 3200 block of N. Robison Road.  When the officer attempted to stop the driver of the Nissan, the driver fled the scene, said Sgt. Aaron Brower with the Texarkana, Texas, Police Department

“After attempting to initiate a traffic stop and the suspect wrecked at the intersection of College Drive and Fielden Street. The suspect fled the scene of the accident on foot,” he said.

Officers discovered that the suspect had a 3 year-old boy in the vehicle. The suspect, Scott Mattingly, 52, of Texarkana, Ark., was found nearby and was arrested for DWI with a child passenger, Evading Arrest in a Vehicle, Endangering a Child, and Resisting Arrest. He was transported to jail.

Paramedics were called to the scene and the child suffered no apparent injuries.
