Bowie County Sheriff’s Office launched a manhunt Friday evening after a man spotted walking down U.S. Highway 59 with a shotgun fired off several shots when confronted about the gun, according to Bowie County Sheriff James Prince.

The incident occurred on Highway 59 near the Rock School and no one was injured.

According to Prince, the man carrying the gun also kicked in the door to an empty house after he was confronted. Deputies also heard the man fire off multiple shots as he ran into the woods when they arrived on scene, but are unsure what he was shooting at, said Prince.

According to Prince, the suspect is 26-year-old William Thomas Fugate who lives in the area.

Bowie County Deputies, Texas DPS Troopers, and a Texas Game Warden spent around 3 hours searching for Fugate, but found no sign of him.

According to Prince, people should use caution if they see this man and call 9-1-1. The incident is still under investigation and Prince is unsure of any charges that will be filed at this time.
