Oldest grave in Rondo Cemetery gets new headstone


A new headstone now marks the oldest grave in Old Rondo Cemetery.

Six year old Susan P. Owen was buried in the cemetery in 1839. She died October 8, 1839.

Her father Alexander Owen donated the land to make the cemete

ry in 1836.

The original headstone was unreadable after 180 years of exposure to the elements. It had also recently broke in half.

Stewart Memorial donated the new headstone.

The Rondo Cemetery Association is taking donations to further clean up the cemetery. They can be reached at 870-278-3684.
