Miller County prosecutors have charged a 17-year-old with two counts of rape.

Richard Jewonte Green will turn 18 next month. Arkansas law usually handles individuals under 18 in juvenile court but the nature of the allegations against Green have led to more serious criminal charges being filed in Miller County Circuit Court.

Green faces 25 to 40 years or life in prison if found guilty of sexual misconduct with a boy under 14. Court documents on file in Green’s case state the alleged assaults occurred between January 2011 and Dec. 24, 2013.

Green appeared in court Monday with public defender Matt Stephens for a pretrial hearing before Circuit Judge Carlton Jones. Jones scheduled Green’s case for a final pretrial hearing March 1 and a jury trial March 14.

Green has been in custody since he was arrested on the charges Oct. 7, court records show. His bail is set at $100,000.
