Two people, a man and a woman, were placed in custody and transported from the scene by LifeNet. The male suspect has been identified as Skip Lomax.
According to TAPD Lomax, wanted on a parole violation, was being surveilled by investigators when he was discovered to be in possession of weapons. As investigators began to converge upon Lomax, he fled from officers in marked patrol units and overturned his vehicle in the 4000 block of Arkansas Blvd. His vehicle was occupied by a female at the time of the crash. Lomax suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash and the female wasn’t injured.
Further investigation revealed that Lomax was in possession of three handguns, a automatic rifle and what is being treated as a live hand grenade.
Texarkana, Ark. Police cleared the area around the accident due to the possibility of a grenade being present in the wrecked vehicle. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was called to the scene.
A church next to the accident scene has been evacuated due to the threat of an explosion.
Police say these offenses are federal crimes and the FBI and ATF are working with TAPD and MCSO to safely dispose of the grenade and to obtain evidence necessary to successfully prosecute anyone involved in this crime.
