The “Rising Lone Star” recognizes extraordinary acts of self-sacrifice or community service demonstrated by high school students in Texas’ Fourth District. The recipients are nominated for consideration by their principals, administrators or counselors.

From Texas High School, Abadom was nominated for a being a positive role model at her school and for her faithful volunteer work at her church. Also from Texas High School, Heo was nominated for his strong work ethic in the classroom, for his involvement in UIL and Student Council, and for his volunteer work as a math and science tutor.

From Pleasant Grove High School, Allison was nominated for her extensive volunteer work with her church in helping with an annual stadium clean-up and assisting at a local dance clinic.

“I’m certainly humbled to represent such inspiring young people throughout Texas’ Fourth District who’ve gone to such great lengths to make a real difference in their schools and communities, and the ‘Rising Lone Star’ award presents an excellent opportunity to showcase their inspiring stories,” Ratcliffe said.

“I’d like to congratulate Whitney, Alex and Lauren for being selected as recipients for this school year and encourage them to keep working hard to positively impact others well after they graduate.”
