Safety lighting will be added to several Northeast Texas highways to help improve nighttime visibility for motorists, according to plans approved in September by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
“We will be installing street lights at several highway intersections and key locations where they will bring attention to the areas and improve visibility at night,” said Rebbecca Wells, district traffic engineer for TxDOT in Atlanta.
Locations scheduled to receive safety lighting include:
In Bowie County: IH 30 at Spur 74 near Victory City and FM 2253 near Leary.
In Cass County: US 59 on curve just east of rest area between Atlanta and Linden.
In Harrison County: US 80 at CR 3426 and Mt. Pleasant Road west of Hallsville; US 59 at FM 1793 north of Marshall; and FM 31 at FM 2199 at Crossroads.
In Panola County: US 79 at FM 124, FM 1970 and FM 959 west of Carthage; US 79 at Bethany; FM 31 at FM 123 at Midyet; and FM 699 at FM 2517 southeast of Carthage.
In Upshur County: SH 155 at FM 2796, FM 555 and FM 2263 northeast of Gilmer; and SH 154 at FM 726 and at new school west of Diana.
Highway Intelligent Traffic Solutions, Inc. of Longview was awarded the contract for the project with a low bid of $684,082.
Work on the project should begin in December and take about seven months to complete, Wells said.
