Texarkana College Cosmetology Program will host the sixth annual Shear Madness Avant Garde Hair and Fashion Show, on Wed., Nov. 4, 2015 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the Texarkana College campus in the Truman Arnold Student Center. Cosmetology students from across the region will compete for recognition of design elements and use of unique materials including human hair to create extraordinary presentations on models and mannequins. The event is free and open to the public.
“For the runway competition, student teams have been preparing for weeks to create a design for a live model based on their choice of a theme,” Brandon Dixon, Texarkana College Cosmetology Instructor said. “The goal is to present an ‘over the top’ creation for the runway as part of a fierce competition that pushes students to embrace an industry level creative edge. This event is becoming a tradition for our community, last year we had over 400 people come to watch.”
Texarkana College Cosmetology program has invited top cosmetology schools in Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana to compete in the event and share in the experience. The participation fee for a team is $20 and will be donated to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Texarkana College’s Cosmetology program has been designated as a Pivot Point International training site which supports the mission of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s efforts through charitable contributions.
Texarkana College Cosmetology program also works with the Wella Professionals School who provides classes to students to prepare them for the competition and will serve as an event sponsor.
