Texarkana Regional Airport has closed its longest runway for around a month to make repairs to the surface of the runway.

The 6,600 foot runway 4/22 is closed for up to 40 days so it can be resurfaced with new asphalt.

According to airport director Mark Mellinger, the closure will not affect commercial air traffic. The 5,200 foot runway 13/31 will remain open and serve all traffic.

“You do have to refurbish the pavement every so often, that guarantee that we have a good smooth surface for airplanes to land on,” Mellinger told TXK Today.

According to Mellinger, the last repairs to the runway were done 17 years ago.

Both runways will be closed on the weekends of June 4-5 and June 11-12.
