TEXARKANA, Texas–An 18-year-old Texarkana man has been charged with deadly
conduct in connection with a shooting earlier this month in the parking of
a Walmart Neighborhood Market on Summerhill Rd. in Texarkana, Texas.
Marquayvious Ankwaun Richardson was allegedly driving a silver Dodge
Avenger that pulled into the store’s parking lot at around 9 p.m. Jan. 4,
according to a probable cause affidavit. Richardson and a front seat
passenger allegedly approached an older model sedan before that car
“immediately” left the parking lot.
Investigators were able to track their movements using video surveillance
in the store and lot for about 30 minutes before the Avenger’s passenger
allegedly fired multiple shots at the sedan in the parking lot where
employees, customers and small children were present.
After getting gas and using the bathroom inside the store, Richardson’s
unidentified passenger allegedly began walking toward the sedan with a
firearm in his hand, firing shots. The sedan reportedly sped away at a high
rate of speed. Richardson allegedly drove the Avenger at a high rate of
speed out of the parking lot after his passenger re-entered the car.
Officers called to the scene by an employee who had been walking to her car
when she heard gunfire found a 2020 GMC Acadia that had been struck during
the gunplay. The front passenger window of the Acadia was shattered and
officers were able to recover a bullet after contacting the owner, who had
been inside the store shopping.
Just a few feet away from the Acadia, officers located a spent 9mm shell
casing.
A few days later, an officer on patrol spotted the Avenger in a parking lot
in the 2700 block of New Boston Road. When an officer pulled in behind the
car, Richardson allegedly accelerated to a speed of approximately 75 miles
per hour on Robison Road in a 35-mile per hour zone.
Richardson reportedly came to a stop in the 1900 block of Robison. He
allegedly asked officers how he could be charged with deadly conduct when
“it was self-defense.”
At the time of the stop, officers allegedly found a small amount of
marijuana in the driver’s seat. Under the driver’s seat, they allegedly
discovered a Taurus handgun which had been reported stolen out of Atlanta,
Texas. A vape pen containing THC was allegedly recovered from Richardson’s
pocket.
Richardson has been charged with deadly conduct, theft of a firearm and
possession of a controlled substance. If found guilty of deadly conduct,
Richardson faces two to ten years in prison. The weapon and drug charges
are each punishable by six months to two years in a state jail.
Richardson was also charged with misdemeanor charges of possession of
marijuana and unlawfully carrying a weapon.
Richardson is currently being held in the Bowie County jail with bail
totaling $137,000.
