Texas A&M University-Texarkana will host a suicide prevention awareness glow party from 7-10 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20, in Eagle Hall of the University Center on the A&M-Texarkana campus, 7101 University Ave., Texarkana, Texas.

The event is designed to spread awareness about mental health issues and suicide prevention. The theme is “Your Story is Not Over.”

Hosts will include A&M-Texarkana Counseling Services and members of student organization Spectrum.

“We know that stigma prevents many people from reaching out for help. We want to let our students and community know that there is no shame in asking for help and that we all struggle at some point in our lives,” said Briana Taylor with the A&M-Texarkana Counseling Services office. “You don’t have to have a diagnosable mental health disorder to see a counselor. We can teach people a wide range of skills to help manage stress, increase interpersonal effectiveness, learn healthy boundaries and encourage personal growth.”

Music, food and door prizes will be available at the event. The public is welcome.
