Texas High School Class of 1979 alumni and author, Jan Freeman Hixson, will walk the hallways of THS again as she returns to Texarkana to speak with students on writing and publishing. Her presentations are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 13th from 8:30 a.m. – 11:48 a.m.

Her first novel, Wait ‘til You Hear What I Heard, was published in April 2014.

It is the coming-of-age story of an eleven-year-old girl growing up in the seventies in a small town in Texas. Although the time period matches her life, Hixson states that it is not her life story.

Anyone who grew up in Texarkana in the sixties and seventies will recognize landmarks, music and perhaps a person or two. The story is both humorous and endearing. Hixson credits her love of reading and writing to the many hours spent at the Texarkana Public Library on State Line Avenue with her older brother.

Following graduation in 1979, Hixson headed for the hills of Fayetteville and the University of Arkansas. Thirty-six years later, she still lives in Fayetteville but has never forgotten her Texas roots. Although an avid Razorback fan, she loves all things Texas.
