TISD: Important Dates for Parents and Students

Important back-to-school dates for Texarkana Independent School District parents and students have been announced.

Texas High School (THS) will hold Schedule Pick-Up for 11th and 12th grade students on Wednesday, August 10. Senior students may pick-up schedules from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. Junior students can pick-up schedules from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m.

On Thursday, August 11, THS Sophomore students can pick-up their schedules from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.

All Texas High School Schedule Pick-Ups will be in the THS Math & Science Center Grand Foyer, 4001 Summerhill Road. At the time students pick-up their schedules, they can also visit with Academic Advisors, get school ID’s, bus passes, parking permits and locker assignments.

Dunbar Early Education Center will hold a Pre-K Orientation & Meet the Teacher on Thursday, August 11. Parents with student last name ending in A-L will meet from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. while students with last name ending in M-Z will meet from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Morriss Elementary School will host a Kindergarten Orientation & Meet the Teacher on Thursday, August 11. Classroom visits will be from 5:00 – 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 – 6:30 p.m. Campus Orientation will be from 5:30 – 6:00 p.m.

Texas High School Freshman Orientation, known as Tiger Camp, will be held on Saturday, August 13 from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. at the Sullivan Performing Arts Center & John Thomas Theatre, 3941 Summerhill Road. Student registration will be from 8:30 – 9:00 a.m. During Tiger Camp, Freshmen students will enjoy the opportunity to meet with THS Faculty and Academic Advisors, get ID cards, tour the campus, get information on bus passes, lunch forms, locker assignments and learn about the many THS organizations and departments. Tiger Camp will end with fun for all – a THS Pep Rally.

For parents of THS Freshmen, a Parent Orientation will be held on Saturday, August 13 from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. in the John Thomas Theatre.

Meet the Teacher Nights will be held for elementary students and their parents on Monday, August 15.

Westlawn Elementary School will hold their event times by grade level – Third Grade from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m.; Fourth Grade from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m.; and Fifth Grade from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Highland Park Elementary will host a Snow Cone Social along with their Meet the Teacher night. The Snow Cone Social will be from 4:30 – 5:15 p.m. with Meet the Teacher from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.

For parents with students attending Morriss Elementary (grades 1-5), Nash Elementary, Spring Lake Park Elementary, Theron Jones Early Literacy Center, Waggoner Creek Elementary and Wake Village Elementary, your event will be a come and go event from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Texas High School will host a Meet the Teacher Night on Tuesday, August 16 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. During this time, students and parents can meet with teachers, tour the campus and meet with Academic Advisors.

Schedule Pick-Up and Meet the Teacher for Texas Middle School (TMS) 7th and 8th grade students will be on Tuesday, August 16. Seventh Grade will meet from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. in the TMS Gym while 8th Grade will be from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. in the TMS Cafeteria, 2100 College Drive. Parents/Guardians MUST BE PRESENT with student. Available information will include: class locations, bus passes, lunch forms, traffic circulation maps and much more. Textbooks for the upcoming year will also be distributed.

Texas Middle School will host their 6th Grade Academy Orientation and Schedule Pick-Up on Thursday, August 18.

Students enrolled in the STEM Academy will have their orientation from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. Those students enrolled in the IDEAs Academy will have their orientation from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. All orientations will be held in the TMS Main Gymnasium, 2100 College Drive.

During Academy Orientations, parents and students will have the opportunity to pick-up textbooks, meet and visit with staff, receive information on class locations, bus passes, lunch forms, traffic circulation maps and tour the new Sixth Grade Center at Texas Middle School.
