Texarkana Independent School District is hosting “Zone Talk” Community Meetings as they begin the process of realigning the current attendance zone maps.

This new realigning is due to the opening of the newest elementary school which will be located on Gibson Lane.

Totaling at 67,800 sq feet, the new elementary school campus will be located on 15 acres off Gibson Lane near the southwest corner of the Encore Waggoner Creek Apartment Homes.

This new campus is expected to enroll 400 students in Pre-K through fifth grade. The state of the art building will feature a pod design for extended learning spaces. It will include 22 classrooms, research and design center/library, media center, art room, gymnasium, cafeteria and kitchen.

The new facility has been designed and positioned for add-on space for future enrollment growth, above the 400 capacity.

Meetings will be held on Thursday, January 21 at Nash Elementary School and on Thursday, January 28 at Spring Lake Park Elementary School, both of these meetings will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m.

“With the new elementary school on Gibson Lane scheduled to open in August of this year, we feel that it is important for the TISD community and parents to give us their input,” explains TISD.

One of the current options being reviewed is to include all areas of the TISD school zone that is north of I-30. The TISD Board of Trustees will approve the final zoned area during their February or March regular session. Applications for school enrollment will start being accepted in April.

TISD encourages the community, especially TISD parents to attend the meetings and offer their input as they decide the realignment of the TISD Elementary Attendance Zone map.
