TPWD Hunter Education Internet + Field Course set for Sept. 12
TEXARKANA, Texas — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will host a Hunter Education Internet + Field Course in the area on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026.
The course pairs a free online portion with an in-person field session led by a certified TPWD instructor. The online course, available free through TPWD or NRA, is completed at the student’s own pace. Upon finishing, TPWD students print out their final quiz results and NRA students print their field course voucher — either grants entry to an approved field course.
The field portion typically takes about four hours and includes an ethics discussion, a skills course and live-fire exercises. A $15 fee is paid to the instructor upon arrival, though some instructors may charge additional fees associated with a shooting range or other facility.
Pre-registration for the field course is required and is preferably completed before finishing the free online course. Participants must also demonstrate good knowledge, skills and attitude, and score at least 75% on the written exam to pass.
The program is listed as class number #1722508. Texas law requires anyone born on or after Sept. 1, 1971, to successfully complete a hunter education training course before purchasing a hunting license and hunting in Texas.
